Suicide prevention

There are four requirements that should to be checked for in a reliable website. The four elements are: 1. Authority - makes it clear who’s responsible for the page’s subject matter, author’s credentials, identification of the parent organization, the parent organization’s credentials. 2. Accuracy - an accurate source presents information that is detailed and comprehensive, and is also recent and appropriate, lists sources for presented information, and links to trustworthy outside sources. 3. Currency - a website with currency shows the date the page was written, the date the page was placed on the web, and the date the page was last revised. 4. Objective - an objective source presents information with minimum bias, it is also fair, balanced and reasonable, and is without conflict of interest. I chose to look at The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services Office of Suicide Prevention. I have known a few people who have committed suicide and I have attempted suicide so I was curious about this website. First, I looked for Authority on the website at the bottom of the page it states that the Suicide Prevention Resource Center provides the online sources. Secondly, I looked for accuracy on the website. At the bottom of the page it staes that the page is “approved by the Bobby Approved Federal Rehabilitation Act (section 508). Thirdly, I looked at the currency. At the bottom of the page it shows the copyrite date is 2006. Fourthly, I looked for objectives. The website has many different links to all kinds of related sites (some on mental illness) so it definitely is not biased. I have many family members who suffer from mental illness and I found several links to sites that contain helpful information about their particular illnesses. I am planning on telling them about the site so they can possibly get help with understanding what is going on. There is alo a phone number for the National Suicide prevention Lifeline. (1-800-273-talk) which anyone can call if they are considering suicide. Althought the website is from Nevada, anyone can find helpful information about many things. "Tweedle Dumb"
