Analyzing a Web Site

http://www.ojjdy.ncjrs.gov
What I found at the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) web site was that it provides national leadership coordination and resources to prevent and respond to juvenile delinquency and victimization. It supports states and communities in helping develop effective and coordinated prevention and intervention programs to improve juvenile justice systems, so that it protects public safety, holds offenders accountable, and provides treatment and rehabilitation services to the needs of juveniles and their families.

I found this web site to be very informative as a reader. I was able to review their Mission Statement and learn that Congress made the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act in 1974. The OJJDP Web site was able to provide a JJDP Act Milestone for the years 1974-2002, which included what they have accomplished every year. I was also able to review an organizational chart with the components carried out by the ONJDP’s activities with a detailed description of each division of the department. This website was able to provide Annual Reports about combating delinquency, strengthening the juvenile justice system, enhancing public safety, and preventing victimization for the years of 1996-2008. Lastly, I was able to find Employment Opportunities and an additional web site for job opportunities from the bureaus and offices.

After reviewing Widener University’s web site, I was able to conclude that the OJJDP web site is a reliable source for anyone in the Human Services field. It showed authority, meaning it was clear and informative. There was accuracy, showing graphs and statistics. There was also objectivity, currency, and coverage. As a student interested in the Juvenile Justice Field, I found that the web site was very informative and clear which made navigation throughout the web site easy to do. With the help of Widener University’s web site, I feel more comfortable looking for reliable web site for future references.
