Based on the Wolfgram Library from Widener University, the website www.nctsnet.org (The National Child Traumatic Stress Network) meets the criteria that is intended. The criteria is of four elements that need to be looked for in a reliable website. Those four elements are: 1. Authority- makes clear who is responsible for page’s content, author’s qualifications, identification of parent organization, parent organization’s qualifications, 2.Accuracy- an accurate source presents information that is detailed and comprehensive, is recent and appropriate, lists sources for presented information, links to trustworthy outside sources, 3.Currency- a website with currency shows the date the page was written, the date the page was placed on the web, and the date the page was last revised, 4.Objective- an objective source presents information with a minimum of bias, is fair, balanced and reasonable, is without conflict of interest.
The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) provides information on its website and through its publications as a public service. The website is unable to respond to specific questions regarding personal situations, appropriate diagnosis or treatment, professional resources available in your area, or otherwise provide any clinical opinions. They do understand, however, that people may have arrived at NCTSN.org because they are looking for help.
The site materials are made available for educational purposes only and aren’t meant to serve as medical advice or to replace consultation with your physician or mental health professional. The information given or viewed on this site should not be used to diagnose a mental health problem without discussing it with a qualified mental health care provider.
Your privacy is important to them. The site has guidelines they follow to ensure the privacy of all the NCTSN.org visitors. They do not ask for a web user to register or provide any personal information in order to visit the website. However, some pages on the site may ask or require registration. The personal information the site does collect is the personal information provided by the web user themselves. The information is well stored and secured.
This site is a resource for the public, professionals, and others who have a heart and care about children and are concerned about child traumatic stress. This website is funded by the Center for Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
I found this site to be a reliable source to the public and to our professionals and our people who care about child traumatic stress or about anyone’s life in danger. It met all the criteria I learned about evaluating a reliable site from the library at Widener University. I have learned so much about this site, it has a lot of useful links that I look forward in using in the future if needed. It is definitely a wonderful source for individuals seeking help or are unable to go see a health professional. I am pleased to say that I found a legit site and felt privileged to learn about the importance of finding a reliable site.
